![]() NELLIE SNYDER YOST was born in a sod house in the Sandhills. Much praised for her books about the people of the West, she is the author of Pinnacle Jake (1951), Buffalo Bill: His Family, Friends, Fame, Failures, and Fortunes (1979), Medicine Lodge (1970), and many others. She received the "Eyes of Nebraska Award" from the Nebraska Optometric Association, the tenth annual Spur Award for her book Boss Cowman (1969), and many other awards. She was the first woman appointed to the Nebraska State Historical Society, in 1966, and served as its president for twenty years. She lived the last years of her life in North Platte and died in 1992.
